Making high-quality healthcare
more accessible to everyone.

FOUNDED IN 2011

Our Story

In 2011 a likeminded group of four local GPs had a vision and a passion for how primary care should be and created Medplus.  We have gone from strength to strength, and have grown from zero to 12,000 patients, endorsing the model of care we deliver. Cornerstone quality assessors from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners stated “this is the best of General Practice in New Zealand”.

Our primary branch is Medplus Lake Road at Hauraki Corner.  Our colocation with a Medplus Pharmacy, Auckland Radiology, a psychologist, and a physiotherapy practice make Medplus a very convenient health destination. With plenty of parking and easy access for those with disabilities we aim to make access easy. In 2020 we opened a branch clinic, Medplus Anne Street in Devonport.

Medplus is committed to improving access to medical care and as such is open 6 days a week at Hauraki Corner. Known for being innovative we offer our patients free access to their notes via our The Doctors app Patient Portal, and an ability to choose phone and video consultations. Medplus has a free Health Coach and Health Improvement Practitioner, supporting lifestyle changes, health goals and mental health support.

We are very proud to have a Nurse Practitioner, who practices almost identically to a doctor. We encourage our staff to follow their special interests, achieve their goals and work at the top of their scope.

Medplus has a range of specialist services operating from the general practice, including a psychiatrist, a neurologist, a gynaecologist, a vasectomy surgical group, and midwives. At Medplus we feel it is our duty and responsibility to teach the next generation of doctors and nurses. We are proud to have a GP Registrar and to teach them in their first year of general practice as they transition from hospital medicine. We also delighted to welcome a series of fifth year medical students each year, and always enjoy teaching them about care in the community.

WHO WE ARE

Our Culture

Our vision is to see beyond the health issue presenting today, and look at each patient holistically, ensuring that we do everything to maximise long term health. We believe in prevention as far as is possible and will go the extra mile to address health and lifestyle issues that can improve long-term outcomes.  Although we are a big practice, we like to get to know each individual well so we know them and can provide more personal care. To do this we encourage our patients to choose one clinician and to see them whenever possible to ensure the best continuity of care.

We also like to consider our patients in the context of their family, work and social situation, as we know that there are many determinants of health that we need to address.

We welcome everyone to Medplus, regardless of culture, ethnicity, age, abilities, gender or sexuality.  We are proudly a very diverse team and we enjoy embracing our differences, this is reflected in the way we respect and treat our patients. We work closely with North Shore Hospital, local specialists and allied health professionals so that we can get the best out of both public and private health systems for our patients.

Our Core Values

01
02
03
04

We assume karma exists

Assume that doing the right things consistently will yield disproportionate rewards, even if you can’t always tell how that will happen.

We respect the craft

Value the collective wisdom that’s been accumulated by people who have been doing a particular job for a long time.

We put ourselves inpositions of insight

Unique insight, which often comes from a position of direct observation, is the reason the Davids of the world can compete with the Goliaths.

We hire people who genuinely care

There’s no replacement for having people who care deeply about solving the problem we’re hiring them to solve.

What our patients say

I have been a patient here since they opened in 2011. I have always had excellent care and attention and always feel they go the extra mile for me. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful.  It's great to be able to park on site and to have the pharmacy, radiology and physio all in one place. The opening hours are much longer than elsewhere . I love their patient portal which I can use to look at my results, book appointments and read my GPs notes.
