A virtual consultation offers the ultimate in convenience, an appointment from where ever you are.

We are pleased to be able to offer virtual consultations, by telephone and also video consultations. As you can imagine these appointments offer the ultimate in convenience for you, however their use is normally limited to conditions where a physical examination is not required. DURING THE COVID 19 CRISIS WE ACTIVELY ENCOURAGE VIDEO OR PHONE CONSULTATIONS, AS IT KEEPS OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF AWAY FROM INFECTION.

We normally use them almost exclusively for the management of long term health conditions, and find them very useful for assessment of patients with long term and stable mental health issues such as depression or anxiety, arthritis, thyroid disorders etc. Their applications can increase if certain measurements can be provided, so for example, they can be used for follow up of high blood pressure if blood pressure readings can be delivered by the patient. Clearly these appointments are not as useful if you have an infection or injury as an examination will almost certainly be required, unless you can provide really good information.

Virtual consultations are only possible whilst you are in New Zealand territory, if you are overseas our doctors are not licensed to manage your care.

To book a virtual consultation please use the Health 365 Patient Portal or phone 09 489 2011 and ask the Medical Assistant or Receptionist to help with booking and make a payment by credit card. The fees are the same as a face to face consultation, and includes the sending of any prescription to your local pharmacy. The times available are currently just those available within your doctor's appointment diary as per the Health 365 Patient Portal. As per any consultation, the time booked is just an indication. The doctor may be running late depending on what has presented prior to your appointment, so please book to allow yourself sufficient time.

If you can provide us with information, such as temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and peak flow (in asthma) that helps greatly. Also, if you take a photo of a rash and upload it to the patient portal we get better resolution than on a video consultation.

Allow camera and audio access. You will enter a virtual waiting room and your GP will pick up your consult when they are able to. Your appointment time is only an indication.

If we can't find you in the virtual waiting room we will of course phone you.

Thank you for your help with cancellations - If you need to cancel an appointment, please do this at the earliest opportunity - cancellations with less than 2 hours notice will incur a fee. For your convenience we send a text reminder of your appointment the night before.

Appointments on weekdays can be booked on our patient portal, Health 365. Alternatively our friendly reception team will be happy to help.
